overview

This 4-day expedition takes you to the summit of Chimborazo, one of Ecuador's greatest mountaineering challenges, via a high camp approach that shortens the summit push. Starting from Riobamba, the itinerary moves progressively upward — first to Chimborazo Basecamp at 4,000 meters, then an acclimatization hike to Condor Cocha Lagoon at roughly 5,100 meters, and finally to the High Camp geodomes at 5,200 meters, where the midnight summit attempt begins. The reward is reaching the top between 6:00 and 7:30 a.m., just in time for a breathtaking sunrise over the Andes.

The pace is designed for acclimatization: a gentle, independent trek on day two lets you adapt to the altitude while soaking in views of the snowcapped summit, and the moderate 2–3 hour hike to high camp on day three keeps energy in reserve for the climb itself. The ascent is led by certified ASEGUIM mountain guides and demands good physical condition and comfort at high elevation.

The trip includes ASEGUIM guides, transportation, meals at the refuge, water and snacks, high camp accommodation, climbing permits, climbing gear, and adventure insurance. Guests need to bring their own backpack (20–30 liter attack pack), sunglasses, snow goggles, and inner layer gloves. Tips are not included (suggested $10 or more), and travel to Riobamba and international airfare are arranged by guests themselves.
