Mindo Bird watching tour is a 3-day nature and birdwatching trip into Ecuador's lush Mindo Cloud Forest, one of the world's most renowned birding hotspots. Starting from Quito, the trip descends from the high Andes into a biodiverse cloud forest teeming with toucans, tanagers, hummingbirds, quetzals, and the elusive Andean cock-of-the-rock. Guided by local naturalists and staying at an eco-lodge, it blends early-morning birding with waterfalls, ziplining, and traditional Ecuadorian cuisine.

Over three days you'll spot native and migratory birds at San Tadeo and in the Nambillo Cloud Forest Reserve, visit the Mindo Butterfly Center, hike to a forest waterfall, and soar over the canopy on a ziplining canopy tour. Mornings begin early to catch peak bird activity, with guides helping identify species by sight and call. Activity is mostly easy to moderate — gentle trails, birding walks, and optional adventure activities — making it accessible while still offering a touch of adrenaline.

The price includes transportation, breakfast and lunch, adventure insurance, and accommodation. Additional meals and tips (suggested $10 or more) are not included, along with international airfare to Ecuador, arranged separately. Note the trip price is available until 45 days before departure. An optional single-person supplement is available.

Day 2 — Birding and Ziplining

Start at 6:00 a.m. with a guided birdwatching tour through the Nambillo Cloud Forest Reserve, watching for the toucan barbet, golden-headed quetzal, and colorful hummingbirds and tanagers. Continue on a short hike to a forest waterfall with time to swim, then enjoy a hearty local lunch. In the afternoon, take on an exhilarating ziplining canopy tour soaring above the treetops. Overnight at the eco-lodge.

Day 3 — Mindo to Quito

A final 6:00 a.m. birdwatching excursion takes advantage of peak morning activity, with chances to spot hummingbirds, motmots, toucanets, trogons, and perhaps the rare cock-of-the-rock.
